Mermaid ( in progress )

Mermaid ( in progress )
Mermaid ( in progress )

" Mermaid " ( in progress ) is one the first works of new era in my efforts. It represents an emerging effort to provoke considerations using a broad range of references both contemporary and antique. I'm drawing from a pool of elements and subject that interest me, for example in this working piece Myth and Environment are the prevailing elements forming a relationship. And of these two categories human kind is a prominent player.  The " work in progress " also represents a completely new way of working, a way that allows for a dialogue to live as the piece is being made, literally.  The method of conception and construction are not wholly traditionally orientated. This allows me to explore more as the piece emerges, saving the voice of the piece from the dead-ness of a design and composition that's been thoroughly realized prior to painting. Seen as a risky method of working I felt that to abandon the stoic step by step-like process of making a painting a necessity, a refreshing approach, highly challenging, resourceful and surprising gamble.

Care to talk about some the discovery process and how the design and composition emerged?

Holly,

Thank you for your inquiry. To answer your question I've begun to work on that exact idea, a way to describe how this painting has come about, its process and how that process is different from the many portraits, landscapes, still lifes I have painted...with the exception of " An Artist's Love Life ". That painting also represents my emerging method, in fact its officially the first painting which recognized the need. Stay tuned.
